We had the pleasure this past weekend of taking a break from the cold winter weather and enjoying some family fun together in the eight-four degree weather inside at CoCo Key Water Resort in Mount Laurel. Arriving in just about an hour drive to the resort which is less than a mile off the NJ Turnpike Exit 4, it was a quick and easy day trip with plenty inside for the entire family to enjoy!
Themed after Key West, CoCo Key Water Resort is two stories inside. Downstairs in the center is the Parrot's Perch, a large interactive water structure attraction. With a huge bucket that repeatedly fills and dumps the water down on all of those around the play area, it also has four exciting water slides and plenty of water cannons with which you can squirt those walking past. Two of the slides are curvy, one partially enclosed and one fully open. The other two are straight slides side by side. There is a wade-in area of water surrounding the structure. Both girls found the blue and red curvy slides to be great fun and spent a good deal of time climbing back up and riding them down.
Behind the Parrot's Perch is the Coconut Grove Lazy River. Floating along the lazy river and splashing around under the waterfalls made for some great contests amongst the kids - who could get in front first with their tube, who slid under the most waterfalls, and how many times we could all make it around. We spent a great deal of the afternoon on and off in the lazy river having a good time and enjoying the comfortable water temperature together.
If you have brave and taller (at least 48 inches) kids, they'll be exhilarated to climb a few stories of steps and try the two tall raft slides, namely Barracuda Blast and Pelican Plunge, as well as the Shark Slam body slide that is four stories high! They begin and end inside but the tubes weave outside the building before you complete the plunge.
Towards the back area near the steps to ascend to the larger slides, the Lily Pad Adventure offers a cargo challenge that was a huge hit with our girls. They repeatedly scaled the lily pads while dangling from the cargo ropes in order to maintain their balance and get to the other side without falling into the pool. I would deem this another favorite of the kids as we spent quite a bit of time repeating this adventure. In the corner next to the lily pad adventure, they have Palm Grotto, an adults only (18 & up) spa hot tub enclosure.
Coral Cove's Slam Dunk is a three foot deep hoops pool that is great for some basketball competition amongst siblings, parents and children, or new acquaintances in the pool.
Upstairs on the second level is the "Dip-In" Theatre pirate ship pool which boasts a pair of water slides for the youngest of guests landing in one foot deep water. There are also bungees for babies in the corner of this water area. Disney Junior was being projected onto the ship's mast and played throughout our stay. The girls enjoyed starting and ending the day here for some leisurely and relaxing dips in the low-height water as well as some fun rides down the smaller slides. There were plenty of children and parents alike both swimming, wading, and relaxing in the one foot pool.
On site, they have lockers that are a nominal fee for all day access to easily store dry clothing and personal items while enjoying the park. They are quite deep inside but not huge vertically so with the winter coats this time of year, it is a bit tight to fit everything for the whole family in one locker. It helps that they do also have shoe racks around the side to help store the shoes for your family.
Soaking in the water on CoCo Key Water Resort's various attractions, it's easy to relish the moment and the break from the cold weather in New Jersey this time of year. We all had a great time and the kids were thoroughly enjoying all of the ways in which they were able to splash around and get wet at the resort. During your visit to the 55,000 sq. ft. of water fun, you can also visit their Key Quest Arcade which offers "play till you win" right outside the water resort doors on the top floor.
