Six Flags Great Adventure Unleashes Biggest and Scariest Fright Fest

Four New Haunted Attractions

By Stacey Jones September 30, 2018

Six Flags Great Adventure, the World's Ultimate Thrill Park, has debuted its biggest and scariest Fright Fest in park history this fall and we were invited to come out and visit the park to check it out. Running weekends and select days now through October 31, this year's Fright Fest features more than 25 Halloween-themed shows and attractions. Newly-themed haunted houses, a heart-pounding new show, and the 20th season of hte park's iconic, live, stage spectacular - Dead Man's Party - are just some of the happenings this season.

Have little ones at home?  Enjoy Thrills By Day at Fright Fest with all of their favorite rides and family-friendly entertainment. These classic family favorites that are both exciting and appropriate for all ages will return by popular demand. The Trick-or-Treat Trail gives kids twelve and under a chance to trick-or-treat for candy while meeting their favorite characters and is open 11am-4:30pm. Professor Slithers’ Creepy Critters offers the family a chance to join the wacky professor in Adventure Theater and learn about some of Halloween's most notoriously creepy and crawly critters. The Spooky Kooky Magic Show will amuse kids of all ages with mind-blowing magic and comedy. Near the Bloody Fountain in the center of the park are periodic Spooktacular Dance Parties that feature Halloween hits and make you the star of the show. Plus, the safari off road adventure and sea lion presentations always offer great family fun during the day, too.

Celebrate the spectacular 20th season of Dr. Fright’s annual, iconic song-and-dance bash, Dead Man's Party. This rock concert-meets-Broadway-style live show will feature new music, eye-popping special effects including lasers and pyrotechnics, a dynamic cast and all-new choreography by renowned dancer/choreographer Theresa Stone.

After 6pm when the sun sets, it’s Fright By Night with terrifying mazes, blood-curdling scare zones, spooktacular shows and monstrous rides in the dark. It all kicks off with The Arrival Ghoul Parade and The Awakening as the ghouls converge and spread throughout the park, awakening Dr. Fright and unleashing Fright By Night. The nighttime scare factor continues to ramp up at Fright Fest! Fright By Night is not recommended for children under 12 and those who scare easily.  We got the chance to meet a number of the ghouls before The Awakening at Fright Fest and their costuming and makeup are absolutely amazing. They embody the characters well and can certainly give you a good fright in the dark. Once they disperse through the park, you never know when one will be lurking just around the corner!

For those that absolutely love the most intense scare factor, one of this year’s stunning new mazes, Hell Fest, depicts scenes straight from the movie including: The Mausoleum, an increasingly narrow corridor that forces guests to feel the touch of death; The Mask Room, a haunting room filled with floating white faces that could spring to life when visitors least expect it; The Doll Room, filled with dolls straight out of the worst nightmares; and The Torture Chamber, where the bodies of the disassembled, dissected and disemboweled wish to share their horrific ending. Room by room, guests must find their way out, or risk being trapped by “The Other,” the movie’s deranged antagonist.

Blood Drums is also new this year and features driving techno beats and live drums mix with rhythmic power tools and fire artistry to create a unique, pulse-pounding percussion show that is included with park admission.

Brave enough to face your fears? New this year, Fears is a haunted maze that immerses guests in the most paralyzing phobias and living nightmares, from creepy, crawly spiders to cramped spaces, from popping balloons to squirting blood. Adjacent to The Manor, both attractions prey on your worst nightmares to ratchet up the scare factor.

One of our favorite new additions this year is Reflections of the Dead. Desperately trying to escape the mirror maze that holds spirits from beyond the grave, you constantly come face-to-face with yourself as you navigate the labyrinth of mystery and mayhem including glowing LED lights, vanishing images, and confusion around every corner. We all loved this new haunted maze!

All “monstertainment” shows, scare zones, Safari Off Road Adventure and world-class thrill rides are included with park admission, Season Pass and active Membership. The eight haunted mazes requiring an additional fee are: Reflections of the Dead, Fears, The Manor, Big Top Terror: Forgotten Carnval 3-D, Hell Fest, Wicked Woods, Aftermath, and Cell Block 6.
