Lori Lee Corson-Weber is just the type of author that we love to share with our subscribers. Having grown up on a farm in Wall Township, she has created children's books about animals that support anti-bullying initiatives with their messages of understanding, kindness, and acceptance of differences. Two very sweet books with important lessons, these stories are encased within vibrant colors on the cover and throughout the storybook, too. They immediately absorb your children in the upbeat stories and adorable illustrations of the farm animals.
"Everyone is Different" drives home the important lesson of appreciating the differences that make us individuals, both inside and out, in a very eloquent fashion. Understanding that the differences that separate one animal or person from another make them unique and treating each other with respect are undertones throughout this book. The playful nature of the animals on the farm and the children watching them, as well as the engaging description of the various characters, make it an exciting story. It was rewarding to watch both of my kids express how you should be nice to everyone no matter what their skin looks like or how they dress as we concluded the story.
"Everyone Grows Old" focuses on respecting your elders and understanding that you can learn a great deal from those who have experienced many things over time. This resonated very strongly with my older daughter, as she was feeling extreme empathy during the story when Harry, the retired police horse, arrived on the farm and wasn't paid much mind by the other animals. Although she was quick to verbalize that what was transpiring in the story was not nice on the part of the other animals, in the end she was very pleased with how the story concluded.
What's even better? Since this is a local author and the animals on which the story is based are in Wall Township, you can head right over to Atlantic Farms to visit with Annie the cow and other characters from the book. The kids will love identifying the book characters right in front of them on the farm.
Filled with delightful descriptions of the animals and animal noises, too, the books are great fun and delicate in the way in which the lesson is presented. This makes them truly enjoyable for even the youngest reader. You'll even find a "no bullying" sticker affixed to every book. Recommended for children up through age 10, these stories are perfect to read aloud to your baby, toddler, and preschooler as well as for having your older child read on their own. Better yet, have your older kids read them to your younger ones. They open the door for fantastic discussions about important values we all want to be instilled in our kids, so it's a perfect family time book and a great learning opportunity for all.
